Axel’s focus is on advising both corporate retirement plans and individual clients. His 40 plus years as a senior financial and operations executive, as well as a retirement plan trustee and investment advisor, for a variety of healthcare practice and service companies affords him unique perspective on the challenges faced by retirement plan fiduciaries. Throughout his career, Axel also provided investment management, individual financial planning, and guidance for both owners and employees.
Although Axel began his investment career as a trustee and CFO responsible for corporate and retirement assets in 1980, he officially joined the investment industry in 1993 at Kemper Securities. Shortly thereafter he co-founded Investment Management Consultants. In 1997 Axel took a leave from the investment industry to serve as the CFO of an Internet healthcare company he co-founded (WellMed). When WellMed was acquired by WebMD in 2002, Axel returned full-time to the investment industry as a senior consultant for Heintzberger Payne and coincidentally provided consulting support to many of our firm’s retirement plan clients during his tenure there. In 2015, Axel moved his practice to Matisse Capital.
Axel graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Reed College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematical Economics. Axel holds both a Series 65 license and Series 66 license and is registered as an Investment Advisor Representative in the State of Oregon.
